This site (and my e-mail-- ALL OF IT) has been down for almost a week, thanks to a Direct Denial of Service attack on my yellowcandy.com domain's e-mail service. I have no idea who would want to do this or why, precisely, but if you have any ideas, please let me know: andrew.ross-at-new.ox.ac.uk

Pot, kettle... kettle, pot.

After reading a posting by someone I respect(ed) on how they'd just taken out a loan to hire a 'creativity coach', I did a (not so kind) Google search for 'life coach bullshit' or something similarly uncharitable. I know, I know, I can feel the flames licking at my feet already.

But the point here is that one of the links was to someone else's weblog, telling a story similar to mine, with several very telling comments posted in response. In addition to all that, the posting is an object lesson in why I don't have comments on this site. One hyphenated word: spam-bots. Have a look for yourself...

Five tennis-related things that are bugging me:

1. Roger Federer's ponytail.
2. Todd Martin's retirement.
3. Monica Seles's absence.
4. Lleyton Hewitt.
5. That I'm not at Flushing Meadows, as I thought I'd be.
